The City Attorney provides professional legal services that protect the interests of the City of Benwood, its departments, the City Council, and the citizens of the community.

Functions of the City Attorney include:

• Provides legal representation for the City of Benwood and its officials and employees by providing legal advice to the Mayor, City Council and various City Departments.
• Preparation and review of contracts, legislation, bonds, deeds, and other legal documents as requested by the City Council or other officials.
• Provides legal representation to the City Council to assist the Council in conducting affairs in accordance with the statutes and laws of the State of West Virginia.
• Serves as the prosecuting attorney of the Benwood Municipal Court.
