REPORT WATER ISSUES

The Benwood Operations Department is comprised of the Water, Wastewater, Street and Sanitation divisions and is under the direct supervision of the director of operations and development.

WATER & WASTEWATER

The Water and Wastewater Divisions maintain and repair all potable water supply and wastewater collection infrastructure including water and sewer lines, storm drainage structures and five lift stations that pump sewage to the Wheeling Wastewater Collection and Treatment Plant for processing.

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

The City of Benwood’s Stormwater Management program is designed to manage stormwater runoff to prevent flooding, protect water quality, and preserve natural water bodies. Impervious surfaces like parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, streets and rooftops reduce absorption of water into the ground and increase the volume of runoff into streams, creeks and rivers. STREETS

The Street Division is responsible for the maintenance and management of city grounds, structures, street signage and all city-owned streets, alleys, and sidewalks. Street maintenance and repair services include crack sealing, asphalt patching and resurfacing, street sweeping and snow and ice removal.

SANITATION

The City of Benwood contracts with Jochum Refuse for sanitation and trash removal services. Collection is done weekly every MONDAY and your trash must be placed at the curb. The trucks arrive very early on Monday morning, so it is recommended to put your trash out the night before.

The collection of one large item (larger than a microwave oven) per month is included in the monthly fee. Additional large items will incur a charge and must be arranged in advance.
