From The Intelligencer: WHEELING — Voters in Wheeling, Bethlehem and Benwood decided to keep the buses rolling in the Ohio Valley.
According to unofficial Ohio County election totals, the Ohio Valley Regional Transportation Authority bus levy was renewed in Wheeling with 69 votes, or 70%, for the levy to 29 votes, or 30%, against the levy. Voters in Bethlehem renewed the levy with 664 votes, or 84%, for the levy to 130, or 16% against the levy.
According to unofficial Marshall County election totals, voters in Benwood renewed the levy with 149 votes, or 69%, for the levy to 67 votes, or 31%, against the levy.
The current levy has been in place since 1976 when OVRTA became a public entity.
McMechen residents, who also contribute to the levy, are expected to consider their levy with the November general election. McMechen officials missed getting their renewal on the ballot for the primary election.
